Funny Ben video
Nike+ running gadget
The Nike+ running sensor is quite cool. It’s basically 2 small pieces. One that plugs into your iPod (only works with iPods), and one that goes in or on your shoe. It’s an accelerometer, so it’s much more accurate than a simple pedometer. It tracks time, pace, and distance, and can give you updates through the headphones. You upload your run through iTunes to the Nike+ website where it tracks all your runs.
Here are a few good links to how it works, and methods for attaching the sensor to your shoe, if you don’t have one of the special Nike+ shoes.

Here are Kelly’s last 5 runs, and Toby’s last 5 runs:
Ben is walking!
Big Baby Ben took his first real steps just the day after his 1-year birthday party, which was just 4 days short of his actual birthday. Pretty exciting for him and for us. He’d been doing a lot of just standing on his own, and on this morning our neighbors came over with their almost 1-year old and the 2 kids were playing a bit together. He was standing again, and had this determination in his stance, Kelly and I both recognized that it looked like it was about to happen, and I quickly grabbed the video camera and captured it. I think Ben wanted to impress little Peter with his skills!
Ben is 8 months old!
Time flies, and the shutter keeps clicking. A few more pictures of Ben doing his thing.
Kelly’s first half-marathon
Kelly ran her first half-marathon last weekend - The Shamrock’n - which started and ended at Raley Field in West Sac. The weather was great, and Ben and I, and grandma and grampa hung out and watched the action. Kelly came in just seconds under 2 hours, which she was very happy with. My cousin Anne Jenny and friend Eric also ran the race.
Unfortunately, Kelly’s CHIP timing didn’t seem to work, and she didn’t show up in the race results. After a few emails, they added her in, but with a time just OVER 2 hours.
Our laughing little boy!
A short video Kelly made of Ben laughing. Enjoy!
First snowshoe trip with Ben
We took our first trip up to the snow this season on January 6th, and went up to the south side of Donner Summit. Ben loved it! (well, at least he mostly slept through it!)
Our little guy!
Little Baby Ben (Benjamin Miles Goldman) was born 3 weeks early on November 14th at 3:53am, weighing in at 6lbs 13oz. He’s an incredible and magical little critter, and he is totally our responsibility!! Yikes.
Spain, July 2006
Why go to western Spain in July? Well, because we were already over in France for the Tour, and Spain is just next door. So off we go, joining mom and Polly in Madrid, to revisit an area that mom had spent a little time in when she was a teenager when her family spent the summer in England. It was quite scenic, and lots of very old World Heritage Cities nearby. But yes, it was extremely hot.
We’re gonna have a critter!!
Kelly has been successfully knocked up, and we’ve got a little critter well on it’s way to making an appearance in the air-breathing world sometime near December 7th, 2006!!! We’re very excited, of course, and already scoping out which bike routes around our house are bike-trailer friendly. Kelly is feeling great, and is still riding and running regularly. It’s looking forward to riding it’s first Tour de France in a few weeks!
